Your Questions Answered
Q.
Hi Paul, I always follow you around the course when you play in Scotland. What are your top 3 Scottish courses?
LEE SHAW
A.
Hi Lee, thanks for the message and your support. I reckon that my favourite Scottish courses would be St Andrews, Carnoustie and Loch Lomond. They are all very different courses and all special in their own way. All the best, Paul.
Q.
Hi Paul, I'm just after winning the Junior Captains prize in Naas Golf Club (I know you have some good memories from there!) and was wondering if you have any tips on how I could improve my game for next year. I am 14 and my handicap is 15 but my target is 10 and I am well on the way to getting there. Thanks
MARK McGARRY
A.
Hi Mark, first of all congratulations on winning the Junior Captains prize - that's a great achievement. I think for you to improve your game you should work extra hard on your short game - all the shots from 100 yards and in. Getting up and down when you need to for birdie or par is where you will reduce your shots. Good luck and I'm sure you'll be in single figures before long. Cheers, Paul
Q.
Paul, how do you decide which tournaments will make up your schedule for the year?
PETER GILMOUR
A.
Hi Peter, well I try and get myself a well balanced schedule and generally tend to play two or three weeks on the run and then take a break. The school holidays also have a say in the events I play as I like to take some time off when the children are off school! This year is very much geared to trying to gain a place in the Ryder Cup team at Valhalla in September. Regards, Paul
Q.
Hi Paul, How many putters have you used in your golfing career? And is the movement of a long putt any different from a short one in your case?
ANNE HEART
A.
Hi Anne, During my professional career I haven't used that many putters, probably around 50 during over the 15 years of playing professionally. This is a very small amount compared to many players as some may use 50 during 1 year! The movement is very similar with a long and short putt but with the longer putt I use a bit more wrist action to help acheive the required distance. Regards, Paul
